Warner Bros. released its latest DC superhero movie "Aquaman" in China on Friday, two weeks before the action adventure's premiere in North America.
On the first day, the movie took about 154 million yuan (about 22.4 million U.S. dollars) at the box office across the Chinese mainland, according to Maoyan, a major film database and ticketing platform.
This was about 86 percent of Friday's box office sales.
It is currently rated 8.3 out of 10 on Chinese movie rating platform Douban, an average taken from nearly 35,000 viewers. Maoyan has forecast total box office sales of 1.4 billion yuan.
Also from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment, last year's "Justice League" grossed about 690 million yuan on the Chinese mainland.
