The 33rd edition of Golden Rooster, China's top film awards, kicked off Wednesday in the city of Xiamen, east China's Fujian Province.
The event running until Nov. 28 will see nominees compete for 19 award categories.
The shortlist of 41 films selected from 155 entries includes the "Leap," a sports movie about the Chinese women's volleyball team starring Gong Li, and "My People, My Country," a 2019 blockbuster chronicling China's important historical events over the past seven decades.
More than 20 domestic productions will be screened during the show, while arrangements have also been made to showcase international films as well as those produced by China's Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
Launched in 1981, the Golden Rooster Awards is a national event sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Film Association.
