Themed "Maintaining unity in diversity, embracing cyberspace in Xinjiang," a series of activities for the 2024 Xinjiang Network Culture kicked off in Yining city, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on July 10.
During the event, Li Xin, deputy editor-in-chief of the China Daily website, delivered a speech titled "Joining Hands for 'A Date with China' to Tell the Stories of Xinjiang."
Li highlighted the success of "A Date with China", an innovative international media interview activity that has been organized for four consecutive years, and has brought together journalists, influencers, and experts from around the world to collaborate with Chinese media in telling the stories of various regions in China.
In particular, the "A Date with China" international media tour team visited Xinjiang in both May 2021 and July 2022, conducting on-the-ground research and interviews to showcase the authentic and diverse aspects of the region. Through dynamic storytelling and multimedia works, they aimed to present a comprehensive view of Xinjiang to audiences worldwide, countering any misconceptions with real experiences and visuals.
Fernando Munoz Bernal, a content creator from Colombia and a regular participant in the "A Date with China" media tour, shared his personal experiences in Xinjiang during the event. Having traveled extensively through Xinjiang for over 10,000 miles in an electric recreational vehicle last year, he interacted with locals and immersed himself in the region's culture. He praised Xinjiang's hospitality, harmony, and vitality, emphasizing its people's friendliness and resourcefulness.
What's more, he spoke highly of the value of organizing the "A date with China" media tours, saying "I hope to be invited to participate once again - and I look forward to welcoming more foreign friends who want to show the world the real Xinjiang through their lens."
Following the launch ceremony, Xinjiang will host a series of online cultural activities to promote cultural exchange and positive online culture, and to show the world a colorful and comprehensive Xinjiang.
