China and the U.S. are conducting in-depth discussions on the 'phase one' trade deal, said Gao Feng, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) in a regular press conference on Thursday.
"Cancelling tariffs is an important condition for reaching a trade agreement between China and U.S.," stressed Gao, noting that the degree of tariff cancellation should fully reflect the importance of the ‘phase one’ trade deal.
"China has repeatedly stressed that the trade war started with imposing tariffs and should end with the cancellation of tariffs," added the spokesperson.
