China and the United States should promote the sound and stable growth of bilateral economic and trade relations, so as to inject more positive energy for a stable world economy, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.
Shu Jueting, a spokesperson for the ministry, made the comment after the U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, as reported by CNN, stressed the importance of both trade and investment with China and the imperative to work with China on urgent global challenges during a closed-door meeting with business leaders on June 8.
As the world's largest developing country and the largest developed country, China and the U.S. have economically complementary and interconnected interests, and benefit from each other's development, Shu said.
Bilateral economic and trade cooperation not only concerns the immediate interests of the two peoples, but also plays a pivotal role in promoting global economic growth and enhancing the well-being of all people, Shu added.
The two countries should uphold the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation and advance the healthy and steady development of bilateral economic and trade ties, she said.
