Made-in-China products earned their global reputation with sustained research and development (R&D) investment and comparative advantages, rather than relying on subsidies for dumping or protectionism to achieve a monopoly, said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Monday.

Commenting on certain Western media outlets' reports claiming China's intensifying investment in its manufacturing sector will accelerate a so-called overcapacity issue and spark a global trade war, Lin Jian noted that China has ensured the stability of the global industrial chain, and promoted technological progress and industrial upgrading worldwide with its complete manufacturing industry chain.

"China has held the largest share in exports in global trade in goods for 15 consecutive years, and retained its status as the world's second-largest merchandise importer for 15 consecutive years, helping ensure the stable development of the global economy," Lin noted.

Lin noted that it is not uncommon for people and media outlets in the U.S. to use other countries as scapegoats when the U.S. is in a quagmire.

Discriminatory U.S. subsidies through the Inflation Reduction Act, the continuous obstruction of the judge selection of the WTO's Appellate Body, and the willful imposition of high tariffs on other countries' products are the biggest concerns of the world about a new round of the trade war, said Lin in response to a query raised by the Global Times.

Among WTO members last year, the U.S. alone reported 454 technical trade barrier measures, which were more than the total number of notifications by the next five members.

The Chinese economy became deeply integrated with the world's development in the past, Lin said. "In the future, we will further conduct high-level opening-up and nurture new growth drivers for the global economy. Down the path of openness and cooperation, China is always an opportunity for the world."
