Distributed photovoltaic (PV) generation has become a key driver of the energy transition in China, with its electricity generation in 2024 reaching 346.2 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), accounting for 41 percent of total PV output, according to data released by the National Energy Administration on Thursday.

As of the end of 2024, the cumulative installed capacity of distributed PV had reached 370 gigawatts (GW), 121 times higher than at the end of 2013, and representing 42 percent of total PV installed capacity, it said.

Regarding new installations, distributed PV accounted for 43 percent of the year's total newly added PV installations, with a forecasted addition of 12 GW to the sector's capacity, it said.
