Around 10,000 people were evacuated in the northern Ukraine city of Chernigov after powerful blasts rocked a local munitions depot, according to Ukraine's defense ministry on Tuesday.
The first reports of explosions came at around 3:30 a.m. local time (0030 GMT), said the ministry in a statement.
There was no mention of any casualties nor the cause of the incident.
"About 10 thousand people were evacuated," a statement by the country's emergency services said.
Hundreds of people have been deployed to the site, according to the emergency services, and the head of Ukraine's armed forces has gone there.
"From 4:22 a.m. (0122 GMT) the airspace within a radius of 20 km has been closed. The movement of rail and road transport is suspended."
