With the May Day and Dragon Boat Festival holidays on the horizon, central discipline authorities on Tuesday took the opportunity to warn officials against violations of any kind.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) published details of seven cases of violations on its website the same day.

The people named and shamed were from state-owned enterprises and financial institutions. Their violations involved unauthorized trips; financing entertainment and banquets with public money; illegal bonuses; accepting gifts; and excessive weddings and funerals, according to the CCDI.

In one case, Li Bihai, former deputy chief engineer of the Anhui branch of China Railway 24th Bureau Group Corp., accepted cash gifts totalling over 490,000 yuan (75,400 U.S. dollars) at his mother-in-law's funeral and the weddings of his two daughters.

Li was removed from public office and ordered to return the money.

The CCDI called on discipline inspectors at all levels to enhance supervision and punishment to ensure a positive holiday atmosphere.

Holidays usually see a rise of gift-giving, banquets, ceremonies, and other extravagant activities in China. May Day holiday and the Dragon Boat Festival are three-day national holidays in May and June.
