"The claim by Taiwan that Chinese mainland is engaged in 'dollar diplomacy" is baseless and totally vilified," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Tuesday at the regular press conference.
She stressed that Burkina Faso admitted and promised to abide by the one-China principle and resume diplomatic relations with China without any preconditions.
"There is only one China. Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government that represents China, which is recognized by both a United Nations resolution and an overwhelming majority of the world's countries," she responded to the "dollar diplomacy" claimed by Taiwan.
A communique on the re-establishment of diplomatic relations was signed by Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Burkina Faso's Foreign Minister Alpha Barry on May 26 in Beijing.
"The two governments agree to develop friendly relations between the two countries on the basis of the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality, mutual benefit and peaceful coexistence," the communique said.
"The resumed diplomatic relationship between China and Burkina Faso is the right choice based on the interests of Burkina Faso's own country and people. Facts have once again proved that adhering to the one-China principle is a general consensus of the international community," said An Fengshan on May 26, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
China and Panama officially announced the establishment of diplomatic relations on June 13, 2017, after the Central American country cut its ties with Taiwan.
China and the Dominican Republic also signed a joint communique in Beijing to establish diplomatic ties on May 1, 2018, while the Dominican Republic severed "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan.
