Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the media to promote the “Shanghai Spirit” and practical cooperation and friendship between the people of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.
Xi made the remarks in a congratulatory letter to the first SCO media summit held on Friday in Beijing. The president stressed the growing importance of media in promoting mutual understanding among people of all countries.
The SCO media summit is a new mechanism for media cooperation which was brought forward by Xi in last year’s SCO meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The 2018 SCO summit will be held on June 9-10 in the eastern Chinese city of Qingdao.
