China expressed its happiness for the continued consensus and achievements made by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Republic of Korea (ROK), Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Monday.
Spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks at a daily news briefing when asked for comments about the recent positive interactions between the DPRK and the ROK.
According to reports, the two Koreas have agreed to hold a reunion for separated families in August at the DPRK's scenic resort of Mount Kumgang, restore a maritime military hotline between battleships, severed since May 2008 and compete with unified teams at some events during the upcoming Asian Games scheduled for August in Indonesia.
Lu said the DPRK and the ROK are working to implement the Panmunjom Declaration, which ROK President Moon Jae-in and top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un signed after their first summit meeting on April 27 at Panmunjom, and promote reconciliation and cooperation, which are conducive to consolidating the momentum of detente on the Korean Peninsula.
"China has always actively supported the two Koreas to improve their relations, and hopes the international community will play a constructive role for the denuclearization and political settlement of the Korean Peninsula," said Lu.
