The couple found unconscious in Wiltshire on Saturday have been poisoned with the same nerve agent used on Russian double agent Sergei Skirpal, British police have confirmed.
The statement from Scotland Yard assistant commissioner Neil Basu confirmed the collapsed British couple Dawn Sturgess,44 and Charlie Rowley,45, have been exposed to the nerve agent novichok.
He also said there was "nothing in their background" to suggest the couple had been targeted specifically. Counter Terrorist police specialists are now leading the investigation, working with the local Wiltshire constabulary.
