Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday received a written message from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) top leader Kim Jong Un, whose content has not been disclosed.
According to a state TV report, Diaz-Canel met with Ri Su Yong, vice chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee, at the presidential palace where they exchanged views on bilateral relations and other topics.
Both sides expressed their hope to continue deepening the historic links between the two governments, parties and peoples, a statement said.
The DPRK envoy met on Thursday with Raul Castro, former president and current first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. He also delivered a written message from Kim to Castro. The content of the message was not disclosed either.
Ri will remain in the Cuban capital until next Monday and plans to meet with other members of the Cuban government.
The senior DPRK official is a member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and director of the party's International Department.
This visit aims to strengthen links between Pyongyang and Havana after the election in April of Diaz-Canel as the president of Cuba by the National Assembly.
Shortly after Diaz-Canel was sworn in, Kim sent him a congratulatory message, to which Diaz-Canel replied saying he wished to strengthen bilateral relations.
