China's ambassador to Britain Liu Xiaoming called on all parties to support free trade and oppose protectionism in a signed article published on Sunday by The Sunday Telegraph, elaborating on China's position with regard to China-U.S. trade dispute.
The dark clouds of a "trade war" are looming over the globe, posing a severe challenge to the world's economic order and the multilateral trade regime, Liu says.
He lists three conflicts of views between China and the U.S. behind the trade dispute: The world, cooperation and development, in the article entitled "The Trade war reveals three conflicts of views."
onflict of views on the world
The U.S. wields its "tariff baton" against its traditional allies with its "America First" policy while China is willing to work with the rest of the world to make the international governance system fairer and more reasonable, and build a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind.
Conflict of views on cooperation
The U.S. has laid bare its belief in unilateralism and protectionism. China, by contrast, follows its philosophy of win-win cooperation.
Conflict of views on development
U.S. tariff hikes show its narrow-minded view of development as a "zero-sum game." China, however, has called for innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development, with the belief that this will realize the coordinated economic and social progress of all countries.
Liu calls on everyone to unite against unilateralism and protectionism, safeguard the common interests of all mankind, and work for the prosperity and stability of the world economy.
