U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday his administration will "move aggressively" to repel efforts to interfere in American elections.
"We are doing everything in our power to prevent Russian interference in 2018," he told reporters at the White House, more than 24 hours after his appearance with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki. "And we have a lot of power."
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday said that Russia was not a friend of the United States and warned against a repeat of the 2016 election meddling.
"There are a lot of us who fully understand what happened in 2016 and it really better not happen again in 2018," McConnell said.
Trump tweeted late on Monday that he had "great confidence" in U.S. intelligence people.
"I accept our intelligence community's conclusion that Russia's meddling in the 2016 election took place," the president said on Tuesday.
But he added, "It could be other people also. A lot of people out there. There was no collusion at all."
