Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni exchanged congratulatory messages on Thursday to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Xi said in the message that since China and Cambodia established diplomatic relations 60 years ago, people of the two countries have been helping and supporting each other when it comes to issues related to core interests, thus a deep friendship has been established.
He noted that in the new era, bilateral ties have made new progress.
"We exchanged visits, political mutual trust between the two sides has been strengthened, and remarkable achievements have been made under the Belt and Road Initiative," Xi elaborated.
The connotation of the Sino-Cambodian comprehensive strategic partnership has been enriched, which brought tangible benefits to the people of the two countries and made contribution to regional and world peace and development, he added.
Xi stressed that he highly values the development of bilateral ties and hopes the two sides can make joint efforts to deepen cooperation and pursue common development and prosperity.
Sihamoni said in the message that the friendship between the two countries has withstood the test of time and has then upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation.
"Cambodia is firmly committed to the one-China policy, and China fully supports Cambodia's choice of development in accordance with the country's current situation," he noted.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang also exchanged congratulatory messages with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen on the same day.
Li said China will work with Cambodia to further consolidate the friendship between the two sides, deepen pragmatic bilateral cooperation and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries to a new level.
Hun Sen, for his part, said China has become Cambodia's largest investor and source of tourists. He said he believes that commemoration of the anniversary of diplomatic ties will enhance the fraternal friendship between the two countries and deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two sides.
