Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday at the start of his state visit to the Gulf nation.
The UAE dispatched fighter jets to escort the Chinese president’s plane as soon as it entered the country’s airspace.
Xi is expected to meet Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE, and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during his visit.
Both sides are expected to discuss mutually beneficial topics including cooperation in energy, production capacity and other fields, as well as how to jointly build the Belt and Road.
