China hopes the agreement reached between U.S. President Donald Trump and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker conforms to the multilateral trade rules, according to China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
Trump and Juncker agreed to work towards eliminating trade barriers on industrial goods during a meeting at the White House on Wednesday.
The U.S. and EU are the major economies and trading partners in the world. If the two sides can resolve disagreements through dialogue and consultation, work to facilitate trade and investment, and oppose unilateralism and protectionism, the interests of both parties as well as the whole world will be served, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang.
China hopes that measures taken by the two sides are consistent with the demands of the developing countries, and become an integral part of the international community’s efforts to safeguard materialism and drive the global economy.
