Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has stressed the improvement of emergency management mechanisms and performance of duties to prevent major workplace accidents.
Li made the remarks in a written instruction to a national teleconference on workplace safety which is held Friday.
Li said that China had maintained stable workplace safety conditions since the beginning of this year, but warned of severe safety situation and asked to keep alert as major accidents have occurred occasionally.
Li called for further improving mechanisms that deal with emergencies, stressing responsibility for production safety, prevention of risks, and strictly punishing those in violation of the law or dereliction of duty.
During the current flood and tourism season, local authorities and relevant departments should fulfill their duties and strengthen risk forecasts and warnings, and implement safety precautionary measures, to protect the safety of people's lives and their property, Li said.
Vice Premier Liu He, who is also head of the Work Safety Committee of the State Council, attended Friday's meeting.
