Turkish Foreign Ministry on Wednesday vowed to "retaliate" against U.S. sanction on Turkish ministers over the case of American pastor Andrew Brunson.

"Respond will be given without any delay against this aggression which will not serve for any reason," said a written statement by the ministry.

The ministry "condemned" the U.S. Department of the Treasury and called on reversing its decision.

The sanctions "does not comply neither with state seriousness nor concepts of law and justice," said the statement.

The ministry noted "there is no doubt that this decision, which is a disrespectful intervention to our legal system, is contrary to our relationship with the United States and that will cause great harm to ongoing constructive efforts to solve the problems between the two countries."

Earlier on Wednesday, the U.S. Department of the Treasury said that Turkish Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gul and Minister of Interior Suleyman Soylu had "played leading roles in the organizations which were responsible for the arrest and detention of Pastor Andrew Brunson."

On Tuesday, a Turkish court has rejected Brunson's appeal to be released from house arrest during his trial on terrorism charges.
