A senior Chinese official said on Wednesday that the current China-Russia ties maintain a high level of development and are at the best time in history.
Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the 14th round of China-Russia strategic security consultation in Russia with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin met twice this year and reached important consensuses, said Yang.
"The two sides should first implement the consensus of the two leaders and then continue to consolidate and enrich the content of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, promote deeper cooperation between the two sides in various fields, and make the development of Sino-Russian relations better benefit the two peoples," he noted.
"China and Russia should strengthen mutual support on major issues of common concern, closely cooperate within multilateral frameworks and push forward the proper settlement of international hot issues," Yang stated.
Patrushev said under the leadership of President Putin and President Xi, bilateral ties have achieved unprecedented high-level development.
"Russia is willing to continue high-level exchanges with China, deepen strategic cooperation with China, promote Russia-China pragmatic cooperation to achieve more results, and jointly safeguard a fair and rational international order," he added.
The consultation will last from Tuesday till Friday.
