In a new UN-led effort to move forward the political process to end the Syrian conflict, senior officials from Russia, Turkey and Iran will gather in Geneva next week for constitution-related discussions.
UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on Tuesday told a press conference here that he will hold formal talks with representatives from the three countries on the establishment of a "Syrian-led and Syrian-owned" constitutional committee so as to raise the curtain for a real peace process in Syria.
De Mistura said his discussions with senior Russian, Turkish and Iranian officials will take place on Sept. 10 and 11, which will be followed on September 14 by further encounters with senior delegations from seven other states: Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Britain and the United States.
According to the UN envoy, the UN Security Council will also hold a discussion on Syria on September 20.
Describing the upcoming talks with major states as "the moment of truth" for a credible political process for Syria, de Mistura said that he hope and believe that the current tension in northern Syria's Idlib area will not affect the upcoming talks in Geneva.
