China's supportive role of the United Nations "Group of 77" (G77) is vital in giving developing nations around the world a say in global affairs, said the Ecuadorian envoy to the UN in Vienna.

Speaking to Xinhua in a recent interview on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of establishment of G77 Vienna Chapter, Carlos A. Jativa, also the Chair of the G77 Vienna Chapter, said the functioning of the group is vital as it represents more than two-thirds of humanity.

The contribution of China to the Group is very important, he said.

In the envoy's eyes, with the support of China, a great emerging economy with its growing influence, and its historic legacy, the negotiating capacity of developing nations at the UN is strengthened.

Jativa believed China is key in supporting the "three A's" -- Africa, Asia, and (Latin) America, particularly in projecting their interests in the United Nations.

Founded in 1964, G77 members have long called for their economic interests to be taken into account and for multilateralism to be expanded.

He believes that China has become a key player in international affairs, therefore having China as a close ally is important for G77, saying cooperation with China remains solid and should continue.
