China and Russia should strengthen cooperation in energy and innovation, and interconnect the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday.
President Xi made the remarks during a meeting with Anton Vaino, head of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
During the meeting, Xi expressed his greetings and best wishes to Russian President Putin, noting he held productive talks with Putin at the Eastern Economic Forum last month in Russia.
The Chinese president said he maintains close communication with Putin, and that has played a guiding role in deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
He said China-Russia relations have never been better and the two sides should work to continue that momentum.
The cooperation mechanism between the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Russian presidential administration is a unique channel for bilateral exchanges, Xi said, indicating the mechanism plays a significant role in China-Russia relations.
Vaino echoed Xi's sentiments, saying Russia's partnership with China is a priority in its foreign policy.
The Russian side is committed to deepening the exchanges and cooperation between the two administrations, Vaino said, calling to implement the consensus reached by the two leaders and pushing Russia-China relations to a higher level.
