China reiterated its position that it firmly opposes any form of official exchange and military contact between the US and Taiwan, Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said at a news briefing on Wednesday.
Those who undermine the peace of the Taiwan Strait with foreign forces will face the consequence, Ma noted.
He made the remarks in response to the sailing of two US Navy warships through the Taiwan Strait on October 22.
Before the announcement, Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Chinese National Defense Ministry, also stressed that China's stance on Taiwan remains unchanged, and China hopes the US would enhance strategic communication with China and promote strategic mutual trust to steer the China-US relationship onto the right track.
