China will become the second largest contributor to the United Nations regular budget and peacemaking budget starting next year, according to a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on Saturday.
China's contribution to the UN regular budget will rise to 12 percent in the next three years. Meanwhile, the country will continue to be the second largest contributor the UN peacekeeping budget for 2019-2021 at 15.2 percent.
"Such a resolution is a result of China's growth on national economic gross and gross national income, and China will comply with its obligation to UN budget as a developing country," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Monday.
The United States will continue to be the top contributor to both the regular and peacekeeping budgets of the United Nations in the next three years.
