The Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on Ukraine's crisis has reached an agreement on a fresh ceasefire in eastern Ukraine starting shortly after midnight on Dec. 29, local media reported on Thursday, citing a senior Ukrainian official.
Eugene Marchuk, Ukraine's envoy to the TCG, told local TV-channel "Pryamyy" that the truce should be used for the restoration and repair of the damaged vital infrastructure in the conflict-hit region.
The planned ceasefire marked the latest attempt to bring peace to eastern Ukraine, where the conflict between Ukrainian government troops and pro-independence armed groups has been under way since April 2014.
Previous truce attempts have failed with sides accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
The TCG is a diplomatic group of representatives from Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe that was formed to facilitate a peaceful solution to the conflict.
