President Xi extends New Year's Greetings to U.S.

Xi Jinping extended New Year's greetings to U.S. President Donald Trump and the American people, during a phone call between the two heads of state on December 29.

Xi pointed out that both he and President  Trump agree to push for steady development of China-US relations: "At present, our bilateral relations are at an important stage." 

"Earlier this month, I held a successful meeting with the President in Argentina and reached important consensus. Since then, the working teams of the two countries have been actively pushing forward the implementation work. It is hoped that the two teams will meet each other halfway, work hard and strive for an early conclusion of an agreement that is mutually beneficial and beneficial to the world."

Xi stressed that next year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the United States. China attaches great importance to the development of China-U.S. relations, and appreciates that the United States is willing to develop cooperation and constructive China-U.S. relations and stands ready to work together with the United States, summarize 40 years experience in development of China-U.S. relations, strengthen economic and trade, the two militaries, law enforcement, drug control, local and humanities exchanges and cooperation and keep in communication and coordination on major international and regional issues, respect each other important interests. 

Trump extended New Year greetings and wishes to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people. Trump said that the U.S.-China relationship is very important and of great concern to the world.

The U.S. President said that he is glad that the working teams of the two countries are working hard to implement the "important consensus reached in our meeting in Argentina."

He added, "Relevant dialogue and consultation is making positive progress and we hope to achieve results that are beneficial to the people of our two countries and the people of all countries in the world."

The two heads of state also exchanged views on the situation on the Korean peninsula and other international and regional issues of common interest. Xi reiterated that China encourages and supports the DPRK and the U.S. to continue dialogue and achieve positive results.
