Kim Jong Un, the leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, on Tuesday after crossing through China, for a second summit with U.S. President Donald Trump.
He departed from Pyongyang on his personal train on Saturday afternoon and arrived at Vietnam's Dong Dang Station near the border with China on Tuesday morning. The 4,000-kilometer journey from Pyongyang to Dong Dang took him more than two-and-a-half days. From there, he made his way to Hanoi by car.
Before his arrival, speculations abounded on Kim's travel plans: Mixed predictions were emerging that he might make the trip by train, passing through Beijing, the capital of China, and Guangzhou, a leading commercial and industrial city in southern China; or he could travel both by airplane and train as former leader Kim Il Sung did when he visited Hanoi in 1958.
Kim and Trump are set to hold their second summit on Wednesday and Thursday. It has been eight months after their historic summit in Singapore, the first between a sitting U.S. president and a DPRK leader, where they pledged to work toward the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
