China's central government supports the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region administration's work to maintain stability and security, the Foreign Ministry reiterated on Friday.
No external forces are allowed interfering in Hong Kong affairs, said Hua Chunying, a spokesperson of the ministry.
Hua made the remarks after U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said China should do the "right thing" in dealing with Hong Kong issues.
"China has been doing the right thing and we hope that the U.S. side can do the right things as well," she said.
In a response to a question about China's People's Liberation Army's Hong Kong garrison, Hua stressed that the garrison in Hong Kong is performing its duties in accordance with the law since Hong Kong's return to China.
It has become the key to maintaining Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability, the spokesperson added.
