Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor decried the increasingly violent acts of radical protesters and said her government would never yield to such tactics.
"[I] will send a clear message that there is no question that escalating violence can get what the rioters want - not from the government, not from society at large," she says. "Violence will only lead to more violence."
The CE said she could be sure that there would be more violence if the government satisfied the demands of the radicals, adding that the rioters would never succeed.
Lam reiterated that violence will not provide any solutions to Hong Kong's current problems. She called on all people in Hong Kong, regardless of their political views, to agree that the top priority is to stop the violence and restore calm in the city as soon as possible.
