The UN Security Council said in a statement given to CGTN today it will cancel all meetings this week due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Chinese mission to the UN, as Security Council president this month, said that to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the meetings will be postponed.

Members of the Security Council will continue to communicate and coordinate on issues on their agenda such as working on draft resolutions related to Somalia and Sudan's Darfur, he added.

"For example, the council quickly responded yesterday to the attack on the UN's Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA)," the statement said.

The council is prepared to take actions next week, the statement added.
