The enemy that the United States faces currently is COVID-19, not China, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Thursday.
Spokesperson Hua Chunying made the remarks in response to reports that U.S. President Donald Trump compared the pandemic to Pearl Harbor and the 9/11 attacks.
Hua said in the face of the war against the virus, China and the United States should fight side by side as the virus is the common enemy of all humankind, noting that only by concerted efforts could the international community win the battle at an early date.
"Regrettably, we have seen that some people in the United States are shifting blame instead of focusing on disease prevention and control," Hua said, adding that people's lives are more important than political self-interests.
