Citizens of Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan voted Chen Chi-mai of the Democratic Progressive Party to be their mayor in a by-election Saturday.
Chen won around 671,800 votes, or 70.03 percent of the total, while Li Mei-jhen of the Kuomintang gained about 248,400 votes or 25.9 percent, and Wu Yi-jheng of the Taiwan People's Party got 38,900 votes or 4.06 percent, the city's election commission said.
