Chinese President Xi Jinping will deliver a speech on January 25 at the virtual Davos Agenda event held by the World Economic Forum (WEF), according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
At a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said that Xi's speech will be of great significance.
Citing the economic recession and emerging global challenges, Hua stressed that it is widely acknowledged by the international community that the current situation is similar to that of early 2017 when the Chinese president first attended and addressed the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.
"We hope that the event will help reach global consensus, rebuild global trust, and boost global cooperation," together finding solutions for urgent global problems the international community is facing, Hua said.
The spokesperson said China champions multilateralism, and will always devote itself to building a more open and inclusive world economy, as well as constructing a community with a shared future for mankind.
With the COVID-19 pandemic in the backdrop, China will continue to contribute with its "wisdom and power" to fight the pandemic with other countries and facilitate the world economic recovery, Hua added.
The WEF on Monday announced that its Davos Agenda event would take place virtually from January 25 to 29 with the theme "A Crucial Year to Rebuild Trust."
"In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to reset priorities and the urgency to reform systems have been growing stronger around the world," said Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the WEF.
The WEF said that the meeting will aim at rebuilding trust and shaping the policies and partnerships needed in 2021. More than 1,500 business, government and civil society leaders from over 70 countries and regions will set the agenda for 2021.
