Carrie Lam, chief executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), on Tuesday said the UK's new British National (Overseas) visa for 3 million residents of the city betrayed trust and was motivated by economic interests.
In a Facebook post, Lam said Hong Kong is an important source of outside investment for the UK, and British real estate companies have seen Hong Kong residents as their main target customers.
There has been long-term business cooperation between the UK and Hong Kong, Lam said, and she had made efforts to develop a greater space for the cooperation.
Business cooperation is the correct way for self-economic development, Lam cautioned, and behaviors with political packaging that also breach promises are not.
