Xi calls for persistent efforts from Party to continue winning people's support

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has encouraged young officials to faithfully pass on the Party's glorious traditions and fine work style and strive to make new accomplishments in the country's journey to build a modern socialist nation.

He also underscored the need for young officials to keep improving their willpower, perseverance and self-control, while addressing the opening ceremony of a study session on Monday at the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC attended by young and middle-aged officials.

The Party must make persistent efforts to give play to its glorious traditions and fine work style if it is to continue to win the support of the people, said Xi, who is also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission.

He warned of difficulties and challenges ahead even as China has secured historic achievements in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and its comprehensive victory in poverty alleviation.

The more challenges and arduous tasks faced by the nation, the more important it is to improve the Party's work style and make use of a good style to lift spirits, spur morale, build up its image and win over support, he said.

He highlighted loyalty to the Party as the primary political quality of CPC members, saying that young officials must learn from older generations, take warnings from negative examples and keep firming up their beliefs.

He encouraged them to take the initiative to enhance their political training, including accepting rigorous training from the Party's political life, to consistently improve their capacity to judge and understand political issues, implement political requirements and enable their political capacity to match their responsibilities.

Young officials must dig into the basic principles of Marxist theories, especially the innovative theoretical outcomes in the new era, and use the Party's scientific theories to overcome any confusion and examine their own thoughts, conduct and state of mind, he said.

Xi underlined the need to seek truth from facts and adopt a pragmatic approach so that ideas, policies and proposals match the real situation, objective laws and scientific outlook, saying that officials must keep their feet on the ground and guard against formalism and bureaucratism.

The people are the source of power for the CPC, with the Party being firmly grounded among the people, and officials must therefore always put the people first, he said.

CPC officials must always serve the people, see themselves as part of the people and refrain from becoming self-important, Xi said.

Young officials must first figure out the issue of who they are, who they work for and who they are relying on and keep in mind that they should put aside their personal well-being in order to serve the interests of the people, Xi said.

Officials must always firmly bear in mind the Party's original aspiration and mission-to seek happiness for the people and rejuvenation of the nation-and work wholeheartedly to solve the most imminent and difficult issues facing the public, so that the people can have a more direct and concrete sense of gain, happiness and security, he added.

He urged young officials to take the initiative to identify and rectify their shortcomings based on the Party's theories, the Party Constitution and its regulations and discipline, while also helping fellow officials correct their mistakes.

Xi highlighted unremitting risks and tests ahead as China enters a new development stage, implements a new development philosophy and fosters a new development paradigm, saying that young officials must strive to become warriors who dare to fight and excel at fighting.
