Chinese Ambassador to Italy Li Junhua on Wednesday lodged stern representations to the Italian Foreign Ministry over the European Union's sanctions on China under the pretext of human rights issues in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
China and the EU are strategic partners, and the current priority is to control the COVID-19 pandemic and promote recovery, Li stressed.
The two sides should strengthen communication and deepen cooperation, but the EU's sanctions have worsened the China-EU ties, he said, urging the EU to rectify its actions.
