Carrie Lam, chief executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Luo Huining, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, and Yang Yirui, acting commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR, attended a ceremony on Thursday for unveiling the National Security Education Day and delivered speeches.
Safeguarding national security is a common responsibility of the administration and the judiciary, Luo said, adding that any foreign power that tries to use the HKSAR as a pawn will face countermeasures.
This year marks China's sixth National Security Education Day, and it is also the first in the HKSAR since the highly anticipated national security law for the region took effect last June. The theme of the National Security Education Day is "Uphold National Security, Safeguard Our Home – Improve Electoral System, Ensure Patriots Administering Hong Kong."
