The Kremlin on Tuesday said that Russia has not made any decisions on the recognition of the Taliban government and will "very carefully" monitor the situation in Afghanistan.
Russia will observe how the Taliban's recent statements and promises match its actions, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a daily briefing.
His remarks came after Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Monday that a new Afghan government will be announced in the next few days.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed on Monday that Russia has received an invitation from the Taliban to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new government.
Russia can take part in the ceremony if the new government is inclusive, he said.
