The Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Thursday condemned the tweets of some U.S. politicians, including one from Secretary of State Antony Blinken, about the Hong Kong police's arrest of relevant members of a notorious anti-China group in accordance with law.
The spokesperson of the office urged relevant U.S. politicians to stop attacking the national security law in Hong Kong and obstructing the law-based governance of Hong Kong, abandon their ideological biases, stop political grandstanding for undermining peace and stability of Hong Kong, and refrain from interfering into Hong Kong affairs.
The spokesperson said that the relevant members of the "Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China" openly defied the law and refused to comply with the information request of the Hong Kong police under Schedule 5 of the Implementation Rules for Article 43 of the national security law in Hong Kong.
The police took law enforcement actions in accordance with law, which demonstrates the fairness and justice of rigorously enforcing laws, the spokesperson said, stressing that the office firmly supports the Hong Kong police in carrying out their duties in accordance with law to prevent, stop and punish acts endangering national security.
The spokesperson pointed out that Hong Kong has transformed from chaos to stability since the implementation of the national security law one year ago.
The fact has shown that the law ensures lasting peace and safety of Hong Kong and constitutes a deterrent to anti-China, destabilizing forces in Hong Kong and foreign interference, the spokesperson said.
The action taken by the Hong Kong police in accordance with the law is in line with the spirit of the rule of law, the spokesperson said.
The national security law distinguishes right from wrong and shall not be vilified, the overwhelming majority of countries in the international community have shown their understanding and respect for China's legitimate efforts to safeguard national security, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson stated that the United States has the most rigorous national security laws in the world that are applicable to every inch of its lands, including overseas territories.
The United States shows no mercy in cracking down on national security crimes, and often uses national security as a pretext to harm the legitimate rights and interests of other countries, the spokesperson said.
The United States has slandered and obstructed the implementation of the national security law in Hong Kong, exposing its double standard and hegemonic thinking, the spokesperson said, adding that since the United States itself holds a bad record of damaging others' interests, it has no qualification to point fingers at others.
The spokesperson stressed that the common will of the Hong Kong society to safeguard the rule of law shall not be misunderstood, and the historical trend of Hong Kong transforming from chaos to stability and prosperity is irreversible.
No foreign intervention or pressure could shake the strong will of the central government and the HKSAR government to safeguard national security and the firm determination to fully and faithfully implement "one country, two systems," the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson urged some U.S. politicians to abide by international law and the basic norms governing international relations, immediately stop supporting anti-China and destabilizing forces in Hong Kong, and refrained from damaging the rule of law in Hong Kong.
