On September 15th, the 48th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held a dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation.
The representative of China made a speech and pointed out that the disposal of polluted water from the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan is related to global ecological and environmental safety and people’s lives and health in all countries.
Japan unilaterally decided to discharge nuclear-contaminated water into the sea without exhausting its safe disposal methods. It is extremely irresponsible.
China urges Japan to revoke its decision to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the ocean.
While the U.S. government claims that Japan’s nuclear-contaminated water discharged into the sea “seems” to meet the globally recognized nuclear safety standards on the one hand, but it bans the import of Japanese rice, fish and other products on the other.
The representative of China solemnly pointed out that the Japan’s irresponsible actions violated the rights to life, health, food and other human rights of the people of all countries.
China urges Japan to to cooperate with relevant countries and relevant international institutions to conduct assessments on Fukushima radioactive wastewater.
