Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Wednesday that the United States, as the largest cumulative greenhouse gas emitter, should face up to its historical responsibility and take the lead in fulfilling substantial emission reduction obligations.
Wang made the remarks in response to a media query regarding U.S. President Joe Biden's apology at the 26th United Nations Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP26) for the U.S. pulling out of the Paris accord.
"We hope the U.S. will come up with a concrete implementation plan and roadmap for halving greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 as soon as possible," said Wang.
