One-China principle anchor for peace and stability in Taiwan Strait: FM

The one-China principle is the solid anchor for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and also the political foundation and prerequisite for China to develop relations with other countries, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

Anyone who attempts to challenge the one-China principle will ultimately fail, Wang said, referring to the inaugural speech of Taiwan's new leader Lai Ching-te on the same day.

Every time they stir up trouble on the Taiwan question, the international community strengthens their adherence to the one-China consensus as well as understanding and support for China's position, Wang said during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Foreign Ministers' meeting in Astana.

No matter how the situation on the island changes, it will not alter the basic fact that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is part of China, he said.

Recently, political leaders and people from all walks of life in many countries, including SCO member states, have voiced their support for China's just cause of opposing "Taiwan independence" and achieving national reunification, which once again shows that the international community's adherence to the one-China principle is unshakable, Wang said.

The separatist activities of "Taiwan independence" forces constitute the most serious challenge to the international order and the most severe damage to peace across the Strait, the foreign minister said.

Emphasizing that the Taiwan question is China's internal affair, Wang said that realizing China's complete reunification is a shared aspiration of all Chinese and a historical trend that cannot be stopped.
