Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for enhancing dialogue and understanding and deepening cooperation between China and Japan, saying such an approach serves the interests of the two peoples and helps peace and development of the region and beyond.

He made the remarks when meeting with Hiroshi Moriyama, chairman of the General Council of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, in Beijing on Tuesday.

Wang briefed his Japanese guest about the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which concluded last week.

Beijing will further comprehensively deepen reform, build a high-level socialist market economy and improve a mechanism of high-level opening up, which will provide more opportunities for development and cooperation between China and Japan, he said.

As today's world is intertwined with changes and chaos, Wang said China and Japan, being important countries in Asia and beyond, should help each other and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

He hoped Moriyama and other individuals of insight in Japan would play an active role in promoting China-Japan relations and welcomed Japanese politicians to frequently visit China.

Wang also elaborated on China's position and concerns on Japan's discharge of nuclear-contaminated water from Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea.

As the ocean discharge concerns human health, marine environment, and international public interests, he said the urgent priority is to establish a long-term international monitoring mechanism to ensure the comprehensive and effective participation of China and other stakeholders.

On the Taiwan question, Wang said the Taiwan question concerns the political foundation of China-Japan relations and the Taiwan Strait is not a "political stage".

He urged Tokyo to adhere to the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan and stay prudent on the Taiwan question.

Moriyama said he had fully felt China's rapid development and economic vitality since setting foot on the soil again in six years.

He expressed willingness to inherit and promote the traditions of friendship of the older generation of politicians, as well as strengthen exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation with China to continue to advance the sustained development of the strategic mutually beneficial ties between the two nations.
