Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs Li Hui and Pope Francis's Special Envoy Cardinal Matteo Zuppi exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis in a telephone conversation on Wednesday, in which they mutually recognized the two sides' positive roles in resolving the conflict.
During the call, Li expressed appreciation for the Vatican's continued commitment to mediating on the crisis and delivering humanitarian assistance, highlighting that the current situation has demonstrated the significance of the six common understandings jointly issued by China and Brazil, according to a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.
On behalf of Pope Francis, Zuppi expressed appreciation for the unremitting efforts of the Chinese government in promoting peace talks, and recognized the contribution of the six common understandings in facilitating a political resolution to the crisis, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry noted that the two sides also exchanged views on the current situation in the Ukraine crisis and the ongoing process of peace talks.
