Shanghai unveiled a total of 186 major projects in its 2025 plan on Thursday, covering various sectors such as scientific and technological innovation, advanced manufacturing, modern services, education, healthcare, culture, infrastructure, ecological civilization and rural revitalization.
The technology industry includes 66 major projects aiming to align with the national strategies. Ten projects are expected to be completed within this year, including Tesla's gigafactory, the R&D building of Zhangjiang Laboratory, the Shanghai Research Institute for Intelligent Autonomous Systems of Tongji University and the Lego Park.
Also, seven new projects are set to start construction in 2025, including the aviation composite materials R&D and manufacturing base of the China National Building Material Group Co Ltd, Qilu Pharmaceutical's global R&D headquarters for drug innovation, the intelligent manufacturing of modern Chinese medicine, the Oriental Life Pharmaceutical Valley, the second-generation high-temperature superconducting strip production and headquarters base of Shanghai Superconductor Technology Co Ltd, the research and industrialization of advanced ceramic components of integrated circuit, and the scientific research base of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited.
The 65 urban infrastructure major projects mainly focus on the railway network, roads, bridges and energy security. Five of which are expected to be completed this year, including the liaison line of Shanghainan Railway Station, the western extension of metro line 2, the second phase of metro line 18, the speed improvement of Jungong Road and the transformation of the eastern part of the city's outer ring.
Furthermore, the Baoshan coal power project of the China National Coal Group Corporation, the second phase of the container terminal transformation at Luojing Port and the renovation and expansion of the Wuqiao grain depot are planned to kick off this year.
Among the 27 livelihood projects, three hospitals will see the completion of new campus or center, like the Pudong campus of Shanghai Changzheng Hospital.
The Hangtou campus of Longhua Hospital, the Fengxian campus of the Shanghai Urban Construction Vocational College and the Songjiang campus of the Shanghai University of Engineering Science will begin expansion in 2025.
Thirteen projects are planned to be accomplished this year to promote urban-rural integration and rural revitalization, involving the hospital expansion in Jiading district, the utilization of suburban waste resources in Minhang, Chongming, Fengxian, Jiading and Qingpu districts, as well as the renovation of Jinhai Road. The Husong Highway will start construction on speed improvement as well.
The 15 major projects regarding ecological civilization will remain under construction this year, including the flood control capacity enhancement of Huangpu River, the ecological and environmental improvement of Dianshan Lake and a number of greening projects.
It is also worth noting that there are 35 projects in preparation and waiting for implementation this year. They include a production project of new energy vehicle components and ultra-precision engineering plastic parts with an annual capacity of 800 million sets, offshore-wind projects on Chongming and Hengsha islands, and the Wusong River water project.
