China will continue to advance the research and development (R&D) of 5G technology and strengthen efforts to construct a domestic 5G network, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on Wednesday.
The ministry noted it will endeavor to promote the industrialization of 5G technology and drive the industry chain including systems, chips and terminals to maturation, read a statement released on the MIIT's website.
The MIIT will organize research and drafting of 5G domestic standards and speed up the construction of 5G networks. More efforts will be made to guide local work such as the planning for 5G base station locations and optimization of the 5G development environment, said the statement.
A growing number of local departments have participated in the 5G build-out across China.
Central China's Hubei Province has built 313 5G base stations. Of these, 278 stations, or nearly 90 percent of the total, have started trial operations, a local official said on Wednesday.
During recent years, the province has upgraded its network infrastructure and advanced the development of vital special projects such as 5G, said Guo Tao, vice head of the Department of Economy and Information Technology of Hubei Province.
The province aims to build nearly 50,000 5G base stations by 2021 and it will apply the technology in sectors including the industrial internet, intelligent connected vehicles, the construction of a digital government and healthcare, according to media reports.
