(ECNS) -- Chinese scientists Li Deren and Xue Qikun won China's top science award on Monday for their contributions to the country's science and technology development.
Li, a famous photogrammetric and remote sensing scientist, has been committed to improving surveying and mapping remote sensing for Earth observation in China, while Xue, a renowned scientist in condensed matter physics, has made many important breakthroughs in this field.
Li, 84, is an academician at Wuhan University. He has successfully developed core technologies for global high-precision positioning and mapping using satellite remote sensing.
Xue, 61, is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He and his team have made two major scientific discoveries -- quantum anomalous Hall effect and interface-enhanced high-temperature superconductivity in heterostructure systems, both of which have a great academic impact internationally.
Xue also served as vice president of Tsinghua University and is now president of Southern University of Science and Technology.
